THE NUTRI-SPEC LETTER
Volume 8 Number 8
From:
Guy R. Schenker, D.C.
August, 1997
Dear Doctor,
Every patient that comes through your door is likely to
have an anaerobic/dysaerobic component to their major
symptomatic complaint. Why is it that such a high percentage
of your patients will only be restored to health when you have
restored anaerobic/dysaerobic balance? Because ...
MAINTAINING ANAEROBIC/DYSAEROBIC BALANCE
IS THE ESSENCE OF LIFE ITSELF.
Recall from last month's Letter that this balance system
is all about two primary biological functions:
- producing energy with oxygen
- maintaining the selective permeability of tissue membranes
Is it any wonder that virtually any symptom or complaint
in any one of your patients can be associated with this
fundamental metabolic balance system? High cholesterol and
cardiovascular disease almost always have an anaerobic or
dysaerobic component. Allergies almost always are associated
with an anaerobic or dysaerobic tendency. Gastro intestinal
function depends upon anaerobic/dysaerobic balance. Chronic
fatigue, arthritis, and emotional problems are all frequent
manifestations of anaerobic/dysaerobic balance.
If one of your patients is suffering from one of these or
any of dozens of other maladies associated with an anaerobic
or a dysaerobic imbalance -- nothing you do for them will have
a permanent therapeutic effect until you have corrected the
cause of their affliction. Only by restoring normal oxidative
energy production and restoring normal membrane function will
your patient enjoy any lasting benefits.
We reviewed for you last month the simple procedure using
your Quick Reference Guide (QRG) to determine whether each of
your patients has this all-important fundamental imbalance in
literally less than ten seconds. When your QRG analysis turns
- 2 -
up an anaerobic/dysaerobic problem in a patient your QRG goes
on to tell you exactly what you must do to restore balance in
that particular patient. Your NUTRI-SPEC treatment protocol
for your anaerobic/dysaerobic patients includes a list of
supplements with incredible biological activity.
Let us look briefly at these amazing supplements.
All your anaerobic/dysaerobic patients will be given
Oxygenic B (of course) along with either Oxygenic A and A+ or
Oxygenic D and D+. Just what do these supplements do, and how
do they do it? Think again about your goal with these
patients. You want to restore normal oxidative energy
production and normal membrane permeability. In the process
of properly re-polarizing the membranes you will restore
normal acid/alkaline balance both within the tissues and
systemically. Every ingredient in Oxygenic A and Oxygenic D
is designed to correct either a cause or an effect of abnormal
oxidation, membrane dysfunction, or abnormal pH.
Every ingredient in each of these products is there for a
specific purpose. Furthermore, each ingredient is there in
the exact quantity and in the exact proportion to other
nutrients to facilitate the rebalancing of your anaerobic/
dysaerobic patients -- with certainty that no other NUTRI-SPEC
imbalances will be created in the process.
If you take a quick look at your Oxygenic A label, what
are some of the goodies you will find? The first thing that
should jump out at you is the amazing glutathione. Combining
the quantity of glutathione in Oxygenic A with the dosage that
all your patients receive in Oxygenic B gives a powerful
therapeutic dosage of this phenomenal nutrient. I could feed
you page after page from the scientific literature on the
incredible biological effects of glutathione. Let me at least
give you the following list as a general summary:
- extracellular glutathione protects cells of diverse tissues
against oxidation injury.
- within the cells glutathione is the dominant sulfur
containing biological and functions directly or indirectly as
an antioxidant.
- it is the major transport form of the amino acid cysteine.
- glutathione participates in the synthesis of proteins and
DNA precursors.
- glutathione functions as a co-factor for many diverse
enzymes.
- 3 -
- glutathione is important in the initiation and progression
of white blood cell activation, and thus is essential to the
immune system.
- gluatathione is critical for the function of natural killer
cells and for lymphocyte-mediated cyto-toxicity. As such, it
is a powerful anti-tumor agent and is an important part of
therapy for AIDS patients.
- It is important in the prevention and treatment of liver and
blood disorders.
- It is a detoxifyer of heavy metals and drugs.
- It plays an important role in slowing the aging process.
- It has been used effectively in the treatment of allergies,
cataracts, diabetes, hypoglycemia and arthritis.
- It is more effective than Vitamin C as a reducing agent for
enhancing the utilization of iron, cysteine and cystine.
- When given orally it is more effective than super oxide
dismutase in protecting cells from oxidation reactions.
- It will ameliorate the harmful side effects of high dose
radiation and chemotherapy.
- It accelerates respiration in the brain.
- It protects against damage from cigarette smoke and alcohol.
Having read this list, ask yourself, where are you going
to find this invaluable nutrient to offer your patients? For
the most part it can only be had as a speciality product at
great expense. Yet here you have it in a clinically
significant dosage if 40 milligrams just in the Oxygenic B
that you give every one of your patients. You find an
additional 50 milligrams in your Oxygenic A. No where else,
and I mean no where else will you find glutathione included in
meaningful quantities in other companies' products.
This is an appropriate place to caution you about a
deceitful labeling practice very common in this industry. I
hold in my hands the list of ingredients from the number one
product produced by one of the country's most famous nutrition
gurus. He hypes this product with every rah-rah superlative
imaginable, knowing full well that people are going to be
easily snookered by the fact that he, with his world famous
reputation, personally designed this product to be uniquely
superior to anything else on the market. The product is, as
- 4 -
you may well imagine, pure garbage. It contains ultra mega
doses of all the cheapest health food store quality nutrients
and then dresses up the label with lots if impressive sounding
"antioxidants," including no less than 1600 units of
glutathione. 1600 units? 1600 micro grams, that is.
This is a perfect example of the all too common lack of
ethics that pervades this industry. NUTRI-SPEC stands as an
oasis in a desert of deception -- standing for truth and
integrity in clinical practice. But anyway -- back to
glutathione. No where but in Oxygenic B can you find
glutathione in significant quantities in a multiple-type
product. No where but in Oxygenic A can you find glutathione
with companion nutrients that potentiate its powerful
biological effect.
Next, you will notice on your list of Oxygenic A
ingredients the sulfur-containing amino acids methionine and
cysteine. The sulfhydril groups in these amino acids have a
powerful impact on all aspects of the anaerobic imbalance --
the oxidative component of the problem, the abnormal membrane
permeability, and the tissue pH.
You will also notice that the minerals and trace minerals
in Oxygenic A are mostly in aspartate form. The aspartic acid
(as well as the glutamic acid) has a strong anti-anaerobic
effect as we learn from Rivici (on whose paradigm your
anaerobic/dysaerobic balance is based). From the work of the
famous German oncologist Hans Neiper we know that when you
combine a mineral with aspartic acid you get some very nice
biological effects. The aspartate functions as an effective
carrier of that mineral -- taking it directly to the portion
of the cell or the cell membrane where it exercises its
biological activity.
Calcium aspartate is particularly beneficial for bone
re-mineralization and for transport of calcium to within the
cell where it has its biological activity. Calcium aspartate
also helps repair damage to cartilage tissue. Furthermore,
calcium aspartate protects membranes from immune aggression,
for example, in the treatment of allergies.
Aspartic acid has also been demonstrated to have a potent
effect in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. Of
course, with the nutritional specificity at your disposal with
your NUTRI-SPEC system you know that the people with chronic
fatigue who respond well to aspartates are those patients who
have an anaerobic or ketogenic component to their fatigue.
Magnesium aspartate is particularly effective in feeding
the heart and in maintaining the integrity of the vascular
system. Magnesium aspartate is a particularly effective form
- 5 -
of magnesium in magnesium's role of lowering cholesterol. The
trace minerals copper and manganese when put in aspartate form
have their anti-anaerobic biological activity potentiated.
Selenium and vanadium are two other essential trace
minerals to your anaerobic patients. The selenium is in the
form selenomethionine, a compound that we have discussed in
past Letters. The vanadium is in BMOV form which is the most
biologically active form of vanadium, and which has a
tremendous impact on carbohydrate and fat metabolism. (You
will note that you have BMOV vanadium in much higher
therapeutic doses in both your Oxygenic K and your Complex S
because of its beneficial effect on your diabetic patients.)
I think we've said enough about the potency of Oxygenic A
in balancing your anaerobic patients. Let us now take a quick
cruise through the label of Oxygenic D.
Take note of the glucosamine. Glucosamine is well known
for its favorable impact on connective tissue problems, both
in controlling inflammation and in maintaining the integrity
of joint cartilage. Rivici demonstrated there is also a
metabolic affect of glucosamine that helps regulate sugar
metabolism, and which is associated with hormone production.
With these metabolic effects in mind you can see that all your
dysaerobic patients benefit tremendously from glucosamine.
Many of your dysaerobic patients do have connective tissue
problems and for them the glucosamine does double duty.
Near the top of your Oxy D label you will find listed the
five anti-dysaerobic amino acids -- histidine, lysine,
arginine, glycine and glutamine. Arginine is interesting in
its ability to antagonize cholesterol and reduce
atherosclerosis. Another important biological activity of
arginine is its role in potentiating insulin. (This is why
you also find a large dose of arginine in your Complex S.)
Arginine, along with lycine and glycine, are known as
alkaline amino acids, which were shown by Rivici to have a
significant anti-dysaerobic effect on membrane permeability
and membrane polarity. Glycine is particularly important in
energy metabolism in muscle tissue. Lysine and arginine have
an anabolic effect on collagen. You can see why these two
amino acids (plus glucosamine) in your Oxy D are so effective
on rheumatoid arthritis, commonly a dysaerobic condition.
Histidine and glutamine are not only part of your Oxy D
but are available for your use as separate supplements for
your dysaerobic patients. We will give a detailed description
of the use of amino acids for anaerobic/dysaerobic imbalances
in next month's Letter.
- 6 -
What other goodies do you find in Oxy D? In addition to
all the anti-dysaerobic vitamins, minerals, and trace minerals
you find the powerful antioxidants quercetin and rutin.
You must certainly be aware that proanthocyanidins from
grape pips and pine bark are all the rage these days because
of their "extraordinary" antioxidant activity. Grape pips and
pine bark are members of the bioflavenoid family, as are
quercetin and rutin. I have yet to see any objective evidence
that the pine bark and grape pip extracts are any more potent
or any more biologically active than the bioflavenoids that
you have in Oxy D.
I suspect that the pine bark and grape pips lent
themselves well to an appealing sales pitch and thereby came
to be heavily hyped by the natural food industry. These
newcomers to the recognized bioflavenoid group cannot begin to
match the quantity of scientific literature in support of the
powerful antioxidant effects of quercetin and rutin. If you
look at the molecular structure of the pine bark and grape
pips extracts they are so similar to quercetin and rutin that
it is difficult to imagine that they have any properties that
distinguish them as superior in any way. These Johnney-come-
latelies are over-hyped and over-priced. You are getting the
same extraordinary biological activity from the quercetin and
rutin in your Oxy D and other NUTRI-SPEC products.
Oxy D gives you the anti-dysaerobic trace minerals zinc,
molybdenum and chromium. The chromium is as polynicotinate --
the form well known for its effect on balancing sugar and fat
metabolism, and on stablizing blood sugar levels.
I could probably devote an entire Letter to every single
ingredient of Oxy A and Oxy D -- but I am sure you already get
the big idea. No where else can you obtain nutrients
synergistically combined for such a specific impact on energy
metabolism, membrane permeability and pH balance.
Sincerely,
Guy R. Schenker, D.C.
P.S.: We are all being inundated with sales literature hyping
PYRUVATE supplementation. I have prepared a critique on
Pyruvate which we will send with your next order -- just ask
for it.
